What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably. Generally, counselling tends to focus on current issues and immediate support, while psychotherapy often explores deeper, longer-term patterns and the roots of your feelings. As an Integrative Counsellor, I combine both approaches to ensure you get the right support for what you are bringing.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is all about making sure you feel safe and that we are a good fit. We won't jump into heavy issues immediately. We'll simply chat about what has brought you here and what you are hoping to get out of our time together. It’s an easy, low-pressure conversation, and you can ask me any questions you have.
How long does therapy last?
It completely depends on you. Some people come for a short time (6-12 weeks) to manage a specific problem, while others prefer to work long-term to explore deeper, lifelong patterns. We regularly check in to review our progress, and the decision to stop is always yours.
How will I know if therapy is working?
Progress doesn't always feel linear—sometimes things feel harder before they feel easier. However, you should start noticing small shifts: feeling more control over your reactions, finding it easier to set boundaries, or having a little more inner strength. We will regularly talk about your goals to make sure the support is always helpful to you.
What if I run out of things to talk about?
That is completely normal! The silences often tell us as much as the words. Sometimes, a quiet session is exactly what you need. If a lull happens, I am trained to gently guide the conversation or suggest areas we might explore. The responsibility to keep the conversation going is shared.
Do I have to talk about my past or childhood?
Only if you feel it's relevant and helpful to you. We follow your lead completely. While exploring past experiences (especially using Attachment Theory) can be very useful for understanding present issues, we will only go there when you feel ready and safe to do so.
How does 'Integrative Counselling' actually work?
It means that I fit the therapy to you—not the other way around. Instead of only using one strict method, I use a flexible mix of ideas:
Our foundation is Person-Centred Counselling, which ensures you feel deeply heard, respected, and accepted without judgement.
We discover practical tools using CBT, which helps you manage difficult thoughts and anxiety.
We explore how your past affects your present using Attachment Theory, helping you gain clarity about your relationships and sense of self.
I don't think I’m not 'bad enough' to need therapy.
If something is bothering you enough to look for support, then you are absolutely right to seek help. Your feelings are valid. Therapy is for everyone, whether you are dealing with overwhelming trauma or just need support dealing with low mood or difficult boundaries.
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are £50 for a 50-minutes.
How do I pay?
I accept payments via secure bank transfer or a secure online payment system (like Stripe). Payment is usually made 24 hours before your scheduled session.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange?
I ask for 48 hours’ notice for any cancellation or rearrangement. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, the full session fee is still payable, as it is difficult to fill the slot at short notice.
Why is working online a good option?
Online therapy offers tremendous flexibility and saves you travel time, allowing you to consistently access high-quality support from the safety and confidential comfort of your own secure space.
Can I do video calls if I am travelling?
Yes, my practice is primarily online, offering you great flexibility. However, you must be in a safe, confidential space where you won't be interrupted and your Wi-Fi connection is stable. We cannot hold sessions if you are driving or in a public space.
